The Philosophy of a Pushover

Sometimes I feel like a total pushover. In the past, and sometimes still, I've called it being a nice person, but let's face it, being too nice will get you walked all over. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and then let it roll off my shoulders when I'm wrong. But it isn't easy. Of course most things aren't easy I suppose. I want to remain unaffected and unchanged by others around me, but it isn't possible. We are all affected by every individual we meet, especially those we spend extended amounts of time with, and therefore there is no way to remain unchanged. And maybe that's okay. Maybe we were meant to be changed by those around us, to take in their stories and their personalities and work to fit ourselves around them. Because like I mentioned in a post a couple days ago, I believe that we are all a part of the same story. So maybe a little bit of change is okay, as long as you still keep your core values and beliefs. Maybe, just maybe, it is the people around us that force us to become the people we were meant to be in the first place, and so in the end, is it because of those people that we are who we should be?
Tennyson said "I am a part of all that I have met." Maybe the sum of who we are is a collection of everyone else. It started with our parents, and will continue on with every individual that leaves a fingerprint on our lives. In which case, are any of us our own person? Yes, as I type that, I think so. Because maybe we allow the change. That's what adapting is, changing to fit your surroundings... so in the end I guess it's really our choice. Isn't it?

This post got so far away from it's intended subject, and definitely more philosophical than I had intended. It is what it is.

  4. I love this it is so very true BUT I think the people who love you love you because your a kind person and the ones who do not care will take that kindness to the next level and walk all over you, which means they are not friends to begin with
