The First Let Down

Everyone is so worried about their "first." Their first dance, their first kiss, their first boyfriend, their first day of college, whatever. First of all, I've learned that firsts are rarely as grand as you imagine them to be prior to them actually happening. First kisses? A let down. First dance... let down. First boyfriend... DEFINITELY a let down. First day of college... Don't really even remember any of the specifics of that. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I wasn't one of them. We're so worried about our firsts, as if those are what define us. Maybe that comes from expectations of the generations before us or from the media, or whatever. The point is, we shouldn't be worrying about the first, whether it happened in the past or whether we're waiting for it to happen. Firsts don't matter. Now matters.

I LOVE this quote...
"The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be." -Marcel Pagnol

This is SO true! We all want to live in the "good old days." But the good old days are RIGHT NOW. We just can't see it yet. Whether it's because we're worrying about the problems we have now, that will probably not be a big deal a year from now, or worrying about the future that will inevitably take care of itself when the time comes, we worry too much! Just enjoy NOW.

I got a bit off topic, as usual. But my point is. Don't worry about what already happened or what hasn't happened yet. Don't even worry about NOW. Because NOW is a fleeting subject. It is here for a second and then drifts to the past. Enjoy what you have in this moment. Let the past stay the past and the future stay the future. Your memory may fade, and your future is uncertain. But you have now right now! So live it!
